How to Generate Multiple Thumbnail Sizes from One Image
Open the Thumbnail Creator
Navigate to the tool. No signup, no uploads to a server.
Upload your source image
Drop a high-resolution image — the larger the source, the better the thumbnails. JPG, PNG, WebP all work.
Pick a preset or define custom sizes
Choose from app icons, video thumbs, social previews, or add your own sizes. Toggle whether to keep aspect ratio or crop to exact dimensions.
Generate and download as ZIP
Hit Generate — all sizes are produced in your browser. Download them all in one ZIP, or grab specific sizes individually.
Pro Tips
- •Use a square (1:1) source image for app icons — it ensures crops look right at every size.
- •Start with a source at LEAST 2x the largest thumbnail size for sharp results on retina displays.
- •PNG output preserves transparency — ideal for icons. JPG produces smaller files — ideal for video and photo thumbnails.
- •For Open Graph (Facebook/LinkedIn link previews) the standard is 1200×630. For Twitter Cards it’s 1200×675.
- •Modern app icons need many sizes: iOS uses 1024, 180, 167, 152, 120, 87, 80, 60 px. Android uses 512, 192, 144, 96, 72, 48 px.

When to Use Thumbnail Creator
App icon packs
iOS / Android / PWA require many icon sizes. Generate the full set from one master 1024×1024 source in seconds.
Video thumbnail variants
YouTube, TikTok, Vimeo, social previews — each platform wants slightly different sizes. Make them all at once.
Blog hero image responsives
Generate mobile (640w), tablet (1024w), desktop (1600w) versions for responsive img srcset.
Social media kits
Same image as Instagram square, story 9:16, Twitter Card, LinkedIn post — generate all variants in one batch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. All thumbnails are generated entirely in your browser using Canvas. Your image never leaves your device.
Can I add custom thumbnail sizes?
Yes. Beyond the preset packs, you can add any custom size (e.g., 256×144 for a custom video thumb).
Does it crop or just resize?
Both options are supported per generation. Crop mode produces exact pixel dimensions (best for app icons). Resize mode preserves aspect ratio (best for video thumbs and hero images).
What’s the maximum source image size?
No hard limit, but very large images (50+ megapixel RAW conversions) may slow processing. JPGs up to 30MB convert smoothly.
Why does my thumbnail look pixelated?
If your source image is smaller than the requested thumbnail, the tool can only upscale — results will look soft. For best quality, always start with a source larger than your biggest target size.
Thumbnail Creator vs Alternatives
Thumbnail generation is offered by many image tools, but few do it well in batch.
Photoshop / Sketch / Figma export
Pro design tools
Key difference: Powerful but require setup of artboards or export presets. Overkill for one-off thumbnail generation.
ImageMagick CLI
Command-line pro tool
Key difference: Excellent for batch jobs but requires terminal skills and writing the right one-liner per size.
Online single-size resizers
Various web tools
Key difference: Most only output one size at a time — you’d have to upload and resize repeatedly for each target size.
Single upload, multiple sizes generated in one click, ZIP download, presets for common platforms, browser-only processing.
