Image Metadata Viewer — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using Image Metadata Viewer.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The metadata is read entirely in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.

What kinds of metadata can this read?

Standard JPEG EXIF tags including Camera Make/Model, Date/Time, GPS coordinates, Software, Orientation, Artist, Copyright, and more. Some PNG and WebP metadata is also displayed.

Why doesn’t my photo show GPS data?

Either your camera didn’t embed location (location services off, or privacy settings), or the photo was shared through a platform that stripped it. Both are common.

Can I edit the metadata here?

Not in this tool — it’s read-only. To strip metadata, use our EXIF Remover. To add or change metadata, use a desktop tool like ExifTool.

Is this forensic-grade accurate?

For standard EXIF tags, yes. For deep forensic analysis (XMP packets, maker notes, embedded thumbnails), use a dedicated tool like ExifTool which supports thousands of tags.
